" A true artist should never be bothered about what anyone has to say about him"
- quote from a film I saw recently at NID. Directed by Alan Parker, the movie Fame is about the life of students in a performing arts college.
Probably in this world of artists there are very few who actually do what their heart wants to do and not what others want them to do. Being in a design course at the so called premier institute of the country I am so appalled to find the acute crisis of individuals where individuality is supposed to be one's USP.

well im taking this straight out of my blog..but cant find anything more apt than....A WRY SMILE..:)
see u prove my point ..... lack of originality leads to people taking comments out of their own blog and posting it in others..... ;-)... lol.... but on a serious note, theres not much one can do but give A WRY SMILE..:)
yeah..i guess so.!!!
Though one should do what one's heart wants to, and should develop an individual style... one should also accept critism positively, and accept that the self is not the ultimate... having a mind of one's own is good but it should not equate to pride or ego... we are all still learning!
i totally agree about taking POSITIVE critism and one not getting complacent by means of ego but I was talking about individuality in the context beyond work. If you look around you, you will notice that the people who have some unique characteristic are tagged "ECCENTRIC" for they have the guts to own up their individuality. And talking about learning, I'm not sure how much of individuality can actually be learnt at this stage ?
I guess individuality is nothin 2do with ego! Its rather a self belief that translates into aceptance of one's true self n a realisation tat you are not the 'be all n end all'. Its tat belief tat lacks n therefore the individual!
was in a way making the same point.. just not articulate though!
I think it's time we got over with the herd mentality and working in comparison to what the others in the class or discipline are doing. It only deteriorates quality and the uniqueness.
I agree with your statement about people being called eccentric and sometimes even losers.
About affecting personalities....i think at 22-25....personalities are usually deeply set and too rigid to be moulded and shaped....
taking criticism postively, own style, self belief all to be noted. but its FEAR, really its just THAT which stops you from taking a stand. Does'nt that count for being a key factor curbing individualism?
It looks like this post has enough comments to generate a pocket book on individuality...
on a seriuos note, well aparna..very true...
